A Briscola Simulation for Commodore 64

Old cards, new code. Briscola reborn on the Commodore 64.

BriscoBasic is a retro card game developed entirely in CBM BASIC V2.0 for the Commodore 64. This project combines the charm of classic programming with the timeless fun of Briscola, a traditional Italian card game.

The game was created for the "Card Game Jam (BASIC Only)" hosted by Phaze101 and supported by the Retro Programmers Inside (RPI) Facebook group.

Features

  • Gameplay: Challenge the computer in a simple yet engaging simulation of Briscola.
  • Graphics: Minimalistic visuals that capture the essence of retro gaming.
  • Sound Effects: Essential audio effects created using the SID chip.
  • Source Code: Peek into the source to see BASIC do its magic.

Technical Details

  • Joystick: Use joystick in port 2.
  • Tested on: VICE emulator and real Commodore 64.
  • Performance: Written in BASIC V2.0 – charmingly slow, proudly interpreted, purely retro.

System Requirements

To enjoy BriscoBasic, all you need is a good old Commodore 64—real hardware for that warm retro glow—or one of its digital cousins:

  • VICE emulator (tried and tested)
  • THE C64 or THE C64 Mini
  • THE VIC20 (it works like a charm!)

How to Play

  • Select a card by moving the joystick left or right.
  • Confirm your choice by pressing the fire button.

Availability

The game is not yet available for download to comply with the Jam's rules.
